Parents Association

Welcome to Kent School!  My name is Sheryl Herrema, and I am the current Parent Association President. I am delighted you've taken an interest in Kent. I hope to offer you a glimpse into our school and parent community.

We chose Kent for our daughter for the following reasons:

  • Academic rigor
  • Strong music and dramatic arts programs
  • Varieties of sports activities (In our case, an amazing horseback riding program and facility)
  • Traditional values
  • A spiritual component
  • A beautiful campus and surrounding town.

But what really distinguished Kent from the other schools was the warmth of its students, faculty and administration. We met current and prospective families who share similar desires for their children's education and future. In addition, another important component of Kent's appeal is the accessibility and leadership we saw from our headmaster, Father Schell. We consider Kent the "diamond" perched on the Housatonic River.

I know from past experience how vital a supportive parent community is to maintain the health of a strong school. Kent parents are encouraged to come to events on and off campus. We have many parent volunteers for on-campus activities. Our international families enjoy sharing their love for Kent with interested families from their towns and communities.

Kent is a school steeped in traditions since its founding in 1906. This provides a strong foundation for academic, athletic and creative initiatives to be explored in a rapidly changing world. While academic excellence is paramount, it is achieved in the spirit of community and team effort. At Kent, every student receives the support they need to succeed.

As you evaluate schools, I encourage you and your child to attend a Kent event or reception on campus or in your surrounding area. These events provide a wonderful opportunity to meet current and prospective families and will serve to enhance your selection process.

On a personal note, I have observed the maturity and growth of my daughter in her self-reliance, confidence and willingness to step into leadership roles.  She is truly blossoming at Kent. A fellow Kent mom shared this recently, referring to her child, "Every time I visit Kent I am happier that we made it our choice for her education."

I hope you will visit our beautiful campus and fall in love with Kent as we have.

Warm regards,
Sheryl Herrema
