Black American Studies II
This course will examine and analyze Black American society and culture as it has developed from World War I to its present-day themes and issues. Primary emphasis will be on the building toward mass movement between the World Wars; the beginnings of the Freedom Movement in the post-war 1950s; the high tide of the Freedom Movement in the 1960s; the development of the Black Power movement; the resistance to racial equity and justice during the Nixon, Reagan, Bush, and Clinton administrations; and an examination of more recent tides, including the rise of Black Lives Matter.
Prerequisite: Open to students in fifth and sixth form with departmental approval
