Rich Mok Receives 2026 Ron Barndollar Sportsmanship Award

Kent School Head Boys Varsity Lacrosse Coach Rich Mok has been named the 2026 recipient of the Ron Barndollar Sportsmanship Award, a distinguished honor presented annually by the Connecticut Lacrosse Officials Association (CLOA) to a Connecticut prep school head coach who exemplifies the true goals and spirit of lacrosse. Voted on by CLOA officials, the award recognizes coaches who demonstrate sportsmanship, leadership, and a commitment to creating a positive experience for student-athletes both on and off the field.

“Receiving the Ron Barndollar Sportsmanship Award is truly humbling, but I see it as a reflection of the values of Kent School, our coaches, students, and families that I’m grateful to be a part of,” Coach Mok says. “Many schools talk about their values and the strength of their community, but what has impressed me during my short time at Kent is how often people outside the school recognize just how special this community truly is.”

Mok emphasizes that the recognition belongs to the coaches and student-athletes who help shape the program. Since joining Kent, he has made a meaningful impact on the program, helping foster a culture rooted in sportsmanship, accountability, and joy. CLOA officials noted a significant shift in the culture and attitude surrounding Kent boys lacrosse, highlighting both the program’s growth and the increasing number of student-athletes involved.

One of the most meaningful observations shared during the selection process is the joy with which Kent’s players approach the game. Officials remark that the team genuinely seems to enjoy competing and playing together, regardless of the outcome — a reflection of the culture Mok helps build.

“We’ve challenged our players to leave the program in a better place than they found it, understanding that we are simply stewards of Kent boys lacrosse for those who came before us and those who will come after us,” Mok says. “Our coaches and student-athletes embrace that challenge with determination and joy every day. This award reflects who they are on and off the field, and it’s a privilege to be part of a group building a bright future for Kent boys lacrosse.”
