The Kent School Model United Nations (KSMUN) team, along with faculty advisors Mrs. Thomsen and Ms. Schade, has just returned from a remarkable trip to the Columbia University Model United Nations Conference, marking over 18 years of participation.
Nine of the school's top debaters traveled to New York City to compete in one of the world’s most prestigious Model UN events. The students represented Canada in various committees, including UNESCO, WHO, and the OAS, participated in debates at the International Court of Justice, and engaged in discussions regarding Arctic Circle access, tackling some of today’s most pressing global issues.
Morgan S. '26 and Jaime A. '26 were honored with Best Delegation and Best Memorial, with Morgan also receiving the Best Orator award. Sienna P. '28 earned a Verbal Commendation (4th place) for her exemplary negotiation skills and hard work.
In addition to their success in debates, the team toured the United Nations and had the opportunity to collaborate with students from Columbia University and Barnard College. The experience provided valuable insights from UN diplomats and future global leaders.
The KSMUN team’s dedication and commitment to addressing global challenges were evident throughout the conference, and the Kent School community is proud of their achievements.
