Holy Solars Make Milestone Debut in Advanced Division at Solar Car Challenge

The Holy Solars marked their fourth appearance at the Solar Car Challenge this summer in Fort Worth, Texas, achieving a historic milestone by competing for the first time in the Advanced Division for high school solar cars.

Despite significant challenges, including a major electrical failure that affected all core systems and sidelined the car for two and a half race days, the team worked tirelessly to complete the vehicle during scrutineering and get it on the track.

Jolie M. '27 and Thais B. '26 made their driving debuts at the Texas Motor Speedway. The Holy Solars earned a third-place trophy, a testament to their perseverance and the accomplishment of passing scrutineering despite the setback.

“To create an opportunity for students to experience all aspects of real-world life outside the classroom and apply the Kent competencies is our greatest reward as teachers,” faculty leaders Mr. Bezerra and Mx. Zucca agreed. “The fact that engineering doesn’t forgive teaches us how to continue growing as a team,” added Mr. Bezerra. “This is the story of how engineering has evolved throughout human history.”

Congratulations to the 2025 Holy Solars: Birch W. '25, Edward L. '25 (C), Jeremy C. '25 (C), Josh B. '25, Shaun N. '25, Emma L. '26, Thais B. '26, Warren V. '26, Jimmy C. '27, Jolie M. '27, Princess V. '27, Roark S. '27.
