At Kent, David captained the Boys Varsity Hockey and Boys Varsity Football teams, and he also served as Senior Prefect. After graduating from Kent, David attended Boston University.

David's relationship with USA Hockey stretches back almost 20 years, having coached in USA Hockey's National Team Development Program, the National Junior Team, and previous Assistant Coach experience for the Men's Team.

David served as the Head Coach of the New York Rangers for three years and has also coached for Boston University, the Colorado Avalanche, and the Lake Erie Monsters.
