Message from the Coach
Welcome to Kent Football. My name is Wayne Clarke and I am the head football coach at Kent School. I have had the good fortune of coaching football for over 20 years, serving as both a coordinator and head coach while striving to positively affect the lives of hundreds of young people along the way. While many of my former players have gone on to have successful collegiate careers at places like Virginia Tech, Georgia, Oregon, Ole Miss, Colgate, Monmouth, and Yale, to name a few, what I am most proud of is my former players who are tremendous husbands, fathers, and community members.
The Kent Football program has been in existence for over 100 years. While the players and coaches have changed, and systems have come and gone, the lessons the game teaches to young people have never changed.
The Kent Football program exists to develop student athletes through participation in our program. We believe in learning through failure and success; lessons that will carry our young people toward excellence in life long after they walk off Theobald Field.
Our program is built on Three Guiding Principles:
Relentless Effort - the individual's ability to perform every act with the utmost passion and commitment.
Competitive Excellence - the individual's ability to put obstacles and emotion aside and compete with passion, resilience, and love.
Power of the Team - the individual player can be elite, but the individuals who play for love of the team can be special.
We ask our players to "Speak Without Saying A Word." A Kent football player will be of high moral character, an engaged citizen, a servant leader, and a young person who will make a positive impact on the people and the world around them.
Kent plays one of the most challenging schedules in Class A New England prep school football. Many home games are played under the lights with crowds that are the envy of any school. Kent Football is a storied program, claiming eight league championships, five New England Championship game berths, and two New England titles in the past 18 years.
