Boys Cross Country

Boys Cross Country
Kent nurtures excellent runners: young men known throughout the Founders League for their natural talent, exceptional conduct, and race-day accomplishments.
Overview

Skill Development & Teamwork
Runners at Kent enjoy a great variety of resources. We have amazing trails right on and near campus, with parks, dirt roads, and mountains all around. Our home course is one of the most challenging in New England, built by hand, and certainly one of the most beautiful and natural. Our workouts are varied and interesting. Hills, distance, speed, technique drills, form work, core strengthening, and more form the foundation our strong but well-spaced racing schedule.
Leadership & Character Development
The diverse, enthusiastic, and committed group of young men who compose the team are focused equally on strong performances as well as resilience, sportsmanship, and respect.

Meet the Coaches
Coach Keenan Ronayne
Coach Keenan Ronayne started as an assistant coach for boys cross country in 2022 when he joined the Kent School faculty before becoming head coach in 2025. Running has been a lifelong passion for Coach Ronayne, who began in middle school and quickly embraced the unique balance of individual effort and team camaraderie that the sport offers.
He competed in cross country throughout high school in Minnesota before continuing at the collegiate level at Carleton College. Competing in NCAA Division III provided the perfect mix of challenge and enjoyment, culminating in a successful four-year career. As a team captain, Coach Ronayne raced at the 2017 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, helping Carleton place 10th as a team. The rigorous training and academic balance he experienced in college now serve as a model for the environment he cultivates at Kent, where each runner is encouraged to forge their own path as a student-athlete.
“When it comes down to it, running is about self-discovery, reaching your limits, and building lifelong relationships with teammates. Without running, I surely would not be where I am today. It has taught me lifelong lessons of patience, teamwork, and resilience that can be transferred to every aspect of my life. Additionally, the coaches and athletes I have worked with over the years have increased my love for the sport and have remained close friends. I hope the athletes who come to Kent to run can share in the same joy that running has brought me.”
Coach Ronayne also serves as the assistant coach for Boys Thirds Basketball and teaches in the Mathematics Department.
