Coach Rob Ober

Rob Ober has coached the Girls Varsity Tennis Team for more than two decades.

Joining the Kent faculty in 1991 as a history teacher, dorm resident and coach, Rob and his wife, Amy, who serves as Director of Admissions at Kent, have been committed educators at Kent for more than thirty years.

A graduate of the Nick Bolletierri Tennis Academy in 1987, and Rollins College in 1991, and a tennis teaching professional for ten years, Rob brings a wealth of experience to the Kent’s Girls Tennis Program.

A member of the Class of 1987 at Nick Bolletierri’s, Rob was part of a graduating class that included future #1’s Jim Courier (Rob’s roomate of two years) and Andre Agassi. He played in the Tropicana Bowl in 1986 and countless junior tournaments in Florida.

After high school, Mr. Ober attended Rollins College to study history. He also played on the Varsity Tennis Team for four years under the direction of the legendary coach Norm Copeland.

After college, during the summers, Rob served as the head tennis pro at the Sharon Country Club in Sharon, CT.

Mr. Ober sees himself primarily as an educator who understands that the value of teaching tennis is to above all teach strong character, support and empathy for your teammates, leadership skills, mental toughness and a love for the game.

You will improve under Mr. Ober’s guidance. He loves to work with players in small groups to improve all aspects of their game.

Mr. Ober has a strong record of helping student athletes on the team who are interested in playing college tennis, and navigating the recruiting process. He is well-connected in the tennis world.

A committed “whole child” educator, Mr. Ober understands that his players will become better tennis player’s if they are given the opportunity to explore and discover new academic, artistic and social interests at Kent.

Mr. Ober welcomes players of all levels, including beginners! He takes special pride in his record of helping guide players, new to the sport, become varsity tennis players here.

Do not hesitate to contact Mr. Ober. He welcomes the opportunity to speak with you!
