Meet the Coaches
Coach Gonzalo del Real
Coach Gonzalo del Real was named head coach of Girls Varsity Tennis in 2025, bringing extensive coaching and playing experience to Kent School.
He previously served as head coach of Boys JV Tennis at Kent. Before joining Kent, Coach del Real held positions as Assistant Varsity Tennis Coach for Boys Tennis at Oxbridge Academy, Assistant Varsity Tennis Coach for Girls Tennis at Mercersburg Academy, and Head Varsity Girls Tennis Coach at Wyoming Seminary. He is a certified Developmental Pro with the United States Professional Tennis Association and a member of the United States Tennis Association.
Coach del Real is known for building competitive tennis programs that inspire a lifelong love of the sport. Beyond high school coaching, he has taught tennis to K–8 players through camps and clinics and has led tennis courses at the university level. His focus on student-athlete development, combined with his leadership and mentorship skills, has made a positive impact wherever he coaches—an impact he continues to bring to the Kent community.
Throughout the season, Coach del Real emphasizes skill development, coachability, court etiquette, and learning from both wins and losses. A core element of his coaching is teaching players to analyze and exploit their opponents’ weaknesses, always preparing a “plan B” regardless of their playing style. Guided by the mantra “Play smarter, not harder,” passed down from his own high school coach, he encourages smart, strategic play.
Coach del Real also believes tennis is a game of sportsmanship and integrity, helping players develop positive character traits on and off the court. In addition to coaching tennis, he is a member of the Modern & Classical Languages Department and serves as an assistant coach for Boys JV Soccer.
