Student-Athlete Performance & Wellness

Student-Athlete Performance & Wellness

At Kent, we believe supporting student-athletes means caring for the whole person. Our programming provides Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, and Sport Wellness to help athletes stay healthy, develop their skills, and perform at their best.

Through individualized training, injury prevention and rehabilitation, mental wellness support, and education around nutrition, recovery, and healthy habits, our team provides student-athletes with the knowledge and resources they need to take ownership of their wellbeing and growth. By combining the expertise of our staff with contributions from outside professionals, Kent is committed to a comprehensive approach to student-athlete health, performance, and development.

Sports Medicine & Athletic Training

Kent School employs two Connecticut-licensed, NATABOC-certified Athletic Trainers. In addition, our sports medicine staff is trained in Basic Life Support (CPR and AED). The sports medicine team comprises the school physician, nurses, and certified athletic trainers.

Athletic training encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of emergent, acute, or chronic injuries and medical conditions. At Kent, athletic training is integrated and multidisciplinary. The athletic trainers specialize in five domains:

  1. Prevention of athletic-related injuries

  2. Recognition, evaluation, and immediate care of athletic-related injuries

  3. Rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic-related injuries

  4. Health care administration

  5. Professional development and responsibility.

Our athletic trainers work in partnership with the Kent School Physician and nurses who are available twenty-four hours a day.

Sports Performance

Fitness Centers

Kent School has two fitness spaces located in Magowan Field House.

Kent provides student-athletes with expert coaching to build strength, speed, power, mobility, and resilience. Through evidence-based, sport-specific training, certified professionals emphasize proper movement, injury prevention, and long-term athletic development to help every athlete perform at their best. Throughout the year, athletes have access to individualized training and performance support designed to meet their needs, whether they are competing in season or preparing for their next season.

In-Season Training
Varsity athletes have access to the Griggs Performance Center for team training sessions with a certified professional during their season. Training focuses on maintaining strength and mobility, improving flexibility, supporting athletic performance, and helping prevent injuries. Athletes may participate in team-based workouts or follow individualized training programs based on their needs and goals.

Off-Season Support
Certified professionals are available year-round to meet with athletes and develop individualized training programs. Whether preparing for a new season, working toward specific performance goals, or building a strong foundation for future competition, students receive guidance tailored to their individual needs.
