Welcome to Kent School

I hope as you learn more about Kent School, you will be able to see yourself as a member of our extraordinary community. It is a community filled with opportunities for your growth—the refinement of a talent you have already discovered or a passion that you cannot yet even imagine.

You will be guided on your Kent journey by a remarkably dedicated and talented faculty, and by Kent’s enduring values: respect for the dignity of every human being and a lived commitment to promoting the common good. These values have been the bedrock of the Kent experience since the School’s founding.

The following visual is intended to show you what life is like at Kent School, and also to tell you about our highest aspirations for you and your life after you graduate. Above all, this book is offered as a heartfelt invitation to explore all the possibilities that a Kent School education can provide you as a scholar, artist, or athlete, but most importantly as a complete human being.

I very much hope you will accept my personal invitation to visit Kent School in person to witness, firsthand, this special community in action. I look forward to welcoming you and your family.

Sincerely,

Michael G. Hirschfeld
Head of School

A Radical WelcomeEchoing the Episcopal Church's ethos of radical welcome, Kent values and celebrates the dignity of every human being and the generous array of backgrounds, beliefs, life experiences, and perspectives that enrich our community.

Kent School purposefully embraces equity and inclusion in all realms of our shared life. We identify injustice in order to make our community more just and loving so that students will do the same in the world beyond Kent School.

A Lasting ImpactThe countless opportunities at Kent School are purposefully organized around the skills and habits of mind that will empower you to contribute to the common good. We call these skills and habits the Kent School Competencies, and they are taught in every context of our shared life—in our classrooms, in St. Joseph’s Chapel, on the stage, in our dormitories, on our playing fields, and beyond.

A Place to ConnectThe deepest and most transformative learning occurs not from textbooks or commonly available media, but from being in community with one another. The connectedness of the Kent community provides powerful learning opportunities in every setting on campus. The Kent community is composed of true collaborators who act upon a belief that the most meaningful achievements require a group of people working together toward a shared goal. The relationships you will form with your teachers, advisors, coaches, dorm parents, classmates, and teammates will spark your intellectual, social, ethical, and spiritual growth.

A Home Away from HomeResidential life at Kent fosters an atmosphere in which the campus becomes a home and the community becomes a family. When you live where you learn, everything becomes a classroom. As a result, your time in the dormitories is an essential component of your intellectual, social, ethical, and spiritual growth.
