Advanced Studies

Advanced Studies courses challenge students who have demonstrated a unique talent or aptitude in a specific area of study or performance to create, apply, and evaluate knowledge in that area.

Advanced Studies Diploma

Kent’s course offerings present a purposeful balance of varied choices and deep investigation to support students in expanding their knowledge and delving further into passions.

To further promote student agency in designing a course of study, Kent offers students the opportunity to complement the traditional Kent School diploma with an Advanced Studies diploma in a discipline or program of their choice. This Advanced Studies diploma recognizes and celebrates engagement in Kent’s most demanding coursework.

To earn an Advanced Studies diploma, students complete a series of demanding prerequisite courses and prepare a body of work of significant complexity and richness. Examples might include an historical research paper, a collection of poems, a suite of musical or theatrical performances, a portfolio of drawings or paintings, a translation from a second language, a report of laboratory or field explorations, an exposition of mathematical ideas, or an engineering solution.
