The
deposit and tuition payments will be billed by and paid to Elderhostel
headquarters in Boston. Charges for single rooms and special
fees will be collected at registration. Payment may be in the
form of check (made payable to “KENT SCHOOL”) or cash. We are
not able to accept credit cards.
REFUNDS
If a Hosteler leaves the program he or she will be given a tuition
prorated to cover expenses incurred by Kent School up until the
time of departure.

ROOMING
INFORMATION
FURNISHINGS PROVIDED (in typical room): 2 beds, 2 desks and chairs,
2 bureaus, plastic bag for waste is tied to inside handle of door
(Rooms are not air-conditioned)
LINENS PROVIDED (per person):Sheets, pillow case, pillow and thin
blanket. One bath towel and one hand towel are also provided.
Linens will be placed in rooms on unmade beds. At the end of
the program linens should be left in your room. A small number
of additional blankets and linens will be provided yet will not
be available for all participants.
PARTICIPANTS
MAY WISH TO BRING AN ADDITIONAL BLANKET AND (2-3) TOWELS AS WELL
AS A SMALL FAN, CLOCK OR RADIO, DESK LAMP, MIRROR AND CLOTHES
HANGERS.
Because
each room has 2 electrical outlets, participants may wish to bring
an electrical adapter.
24-hour
security is provided (see phone list provided and posted by telephones
for emergency numbers). Rooms are not locked. Valuables
may be dropped off at registration or at any time with Coordinator
Randy Hobbs. Valuables will be locked in a school safe and will
not be readily available during the week.
BATHROOMS
Each
floor has 2 shared bathrooms (one on each wing) which will be
designated “ladies” or “men”. Each bathroom is equipped with
2 or 3 shower stalls, 2 or 3 toilets and 3 sinks. (One toilet
and shower are wheelchair accessible in each bathroom). Participants
must provide their own toiletries (soap, shampoo, etc. will not
be provided).
PHONES
Rooms
do not have private phones. Each floor has one pay phone – the
number of which is listed on the attached phone list.
PLEASE – NO PETS ALLOWED (WITH EXCEPTION OF SEEING
EYE DOGS)
SMOKING IS NOT ALLOWED IN OR OUTSIDE THE ENTRANCE TO ANY BUILDING
ON CAMPUS.
LAUNDRY SERVICE
Dry
cleaning is available in the Town of Kent - 1 mile from campus
- at “Village Dry Cleaners” - phone: 927-4018. Days and hours
of operation are: Tuesdays/Thursday 8:00-5:30; Wednesdays/Fridays
8:00-5:00 and Saturdays 8:00-3:00; closed Mondays.
NO LAUNDRY SERVICE IS AVAILABLE ON CAMPUS.

SHOPPING MALL
The nearest mall,
“The Danbury Fair Mall”, is approximately 45 minutes south of
Kent. Take Route 7 South, follow signs to Route 84 West and look
for mall exit signs soon after getting on 84.
CAMPUS STORE
Located
on the ground level directly beneath the Dining Hall, the campus
store will generally be open Monday through Friday from approximately
8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 1:00-3:30 p.m. Because stock is often
times low at this time of year, you should not rely on the store
for essential items. Newspapers are not carried.
LIBRARY
Kent
has an outstanding library stocked with over 40,000 books and
periodicals. You are invited to borrow any book or books during
your stay and are encouraged to make use of this facility. The
New York Times is delivered daily Mondays through Saturdays.
Other newspapers can be purchased in town at the Kent Market or
Patco Service Station. Library hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m./
Mondays-Fridays.
REFRIGERATION
Small refrigerators
will be available in the common rooms of Case and Field Dorms
for medication only.
ICE
Ice
will be available in coolers in Case and Field Dorms each evening
following dinner. Cups will also be supplied.
TELEVISION
To promote interaction
among participants televisions in each common room will not be
operable. A television in our Student Center (located under the
Dining Hall, between Case and Field Dorms) will be available throughout
the program.
BOARD GAMES, CARDS, PUZZLES
We encourage participants
to bring along board games, puzzles, cards, etc. to share with
other Hostelers. Tables in each common room will be reserved
for these activities.
FOR CLASS
Those bringing a
musical instrument should bring extra reeds, strings, oil, etc.
(These items are not available in the Town of Kent).
MEALS
Vegetarian alternatives
are available at every meal. All meals with the exception of
Friday’s Buffet Dinner are cafeteria style. Participants are
asked to bus their own trays.
WHAT TO BRING
-
For your room you are encouraged to bring an additional blanket,
towels, small fan, clock radio, desk lamp, mirror, clothes hangers
and electrical adapter. Dorm rooms have only ceiling lighting.
Desk lamps are necessary if you wish to read in your room.
Seat cushions are in limited supply. Please bring one along,
if desired.

For afternoon/leisure activities you may wish to bring a bathing
suit, binoculars (for bird watching), comfortable walking shoes/sneakers
and appropriate outdoor attire. Tennis and squash courts will
be available - if interested, you will need to provide your
own rackets and balls (this equipment is not readily available
in the town of Kent).

For the recital and concert you are asked to bring:
Men - dark or black pants with a white shirt.
Women - a dark or black skirt or pants with a white shirt

Toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.)
PRACTICE
Music
Practice Rooms are available throughout the afternoon and evening
and can be reserved for 1/2-hour intervals. Practice is not
allowed in Dorm Rooms except afternoons between 2:00-3:00. Individual
and group rehearsals will not be permitted in dorm rooms, other
than this afternoon hour, in order to allow for rest and quiet.
Music Practice Rooms are not air-conditioned and tend to get hot.

Drop-off
point in Kent is the "Fife and Drum Restaurant" located
1 mile from the entrance to campus. Livery service is available
free of charge from the restaurant to the campus. To arrange
for transportation call the school (Todd Marble at 860-927-6038)
and make arrangements at least one week in advance of your scheduled
arrival - please have arrival time available when you call).
BY
TRAIN: Town of Amenia (10 miles west of Kent) serviced
by "Metro"
North
Commuter Railroad" and originating from Grand Central Station
in New York City. Information and schedules can be obtained by
calling (1-800-METRO-INFO or (212) 532-4900). Livery service
is available at a cost of approximately $40.00 (one-way) from
Wassaic to Campus. To arrange for transportation call the
school (Todd Marble at 860-927-6038) and make arrangements at
least one week in advance of your scheduled arrival - please
have arrival time available when you call.

BY
PLANE: There is no direct flight to Kent. The nearest
airports are Bradley in Hartford, Connecticut (55 miles east of
Kent see car directions or New York City (78 miles south of Kent
- see car or bus directions). If traveling by air, train or bus
service is available from New York City to Kent (see above).
No direct bus or train service is available from Hartford. Livery
service is available (though cannot be guaranteed) at a cost $75.00
(one-way) from Bradley Airport (in Hartford) to campus. To arrange
for transportation call the school (Todd Marble at 860-927-6038)
and make arrangements at least two weeks in advance of your scheduled
arrival - please have arrival time, airline and flight number
available when you call). Livery service is not available
from New York or New Jersey airports. If receiving livery service
and your flight is delayed you are expected to call and leave
a message at 860-927-6038.
Those
wishing to share travel from a local airport can fax (860-927-6039)
their flight information along with a phone number where you can
be reached no later than May 15 and we will do our best to help
coordinate plans.
