The Kent boys and girls cross country teams are starting off the season strong by keeping their competitors running, and running fast. According to Coach Sokolnicki, "Boys cross country got off to a strong start with record early week participation, and a current roster of 35 runners. From the seasoned runner to the pure novice to the out-of-season athlete in training to get an excellent fitness base, we have a wealth of talent. It's far too early to know how the season will play out, but all indicators suggest it should be a lot of fun." As for the girls' cross country team, Coach Baird states, "We have good numbers this year, strong leadership from our senior class, and a lot of new runners. Many of the new runners have shown great promise in early season workouts and time trials." New runner Angela Wong '15 says, "The team overall is very supportive and non-judgmental. We all look at each other's weaknesses as well as complement each other's strengths, finding ways to improve as a team."
Leadership is also one of the strong points of our cross country teams. The captains for the girls team, Nicole Marvin '12 and Adrienne Sieverding '12, according to rookie Jessica Li, "Are amazing runners who inspire us to work harder and become faster runners. They also cheer us on, after they are done running to motivate us and help us exceed our standards." As for the boys, Captains Garrett Osborne '12 and Nate Coffin '12 are both experienced runners, Garrett in his fourth year with the team, and Nate in his third.
With the dedication and self- motivation from these runners, there's no doubt that our teams will shine this year. Recent races at the Canterbury Invitational and the home opener against Choate demonstrated the exciting potential of both teams.
