The girls' field hockey recorded their best season in many years this fall. Their final record was 11-4-1, a vast improvement from the 2006 season when the team only had a total of two wins. The team has truly turned this program into a competitor and nearly made the New England Class A Tournament. They finished as the ninth best – one shy of a tournament berth. Many of the girls who are on varsity as seniors played JV their freshman and sophomore years which shows that Kent Field Hockey has truly become a program where the girls can work their way up the system and players are developed for the future. "I could not be more pleased with the dedication and efforts this team displayed throughout the season," beams head coach Cortney Tetrault, "especially when we played against #3 ranked Loomis. We tied them in overtime playing down a person - unreal game!"
Seniors Amie Pritchard and Erin Lidl played in the Western New England Prep School Field Hockey Association All-Star game with the best players from the league. Amie scored the first two goals of the game and Erin Lidl notched another goal later on. It was a great game to watch and both Amie and Erin were most deserving of the recognition. Erin Lidl also received the “best offence” award for her 22 goals and 6 assists. Amie Pritchard earned the Team’s Most Valuable Player award for the season and notched the first goal of the Loomis game and assisted on the second goal. She led the team in assists with 13 on the season and scored nine goals.
Congratulations to Nicole Marvin for capturing first place out of 75 runners in the Girls’ New England Division II Cross Country Race, beating out all competitors by 25 seconds, at Berkshire School and setting a new course record. The team placed sixth overall. She has now added New England Champion to her Founders League title. Nicole has also been nominated as Athlete of the Week twice this season.
The boys' football team captured the Arthur Valicenti Bowl New England Championship in a thrilling overtime performance after capping the regular season by keeping the spoon in Kent for the ninth straight year. That represents the longest such streak in the 65 year tradition of competition for the spoon!
The boys’ varsity soccer team advanced to the finals of the Class A New England tournament for the second straight year. Winless through the first seven games, the team showed their mettle with a strong season finish that earned them the number five seed. Surely the season highlight was the boys’ stunning 4-2 win over rival Hotchkiss in the semifinals. They not only beat the undefeated number one seed who was going for their third straight New England title, but in scoring four goals equaled the total goals scored against them all year. This followed an exciting overtime win in the first round against Exeter. In the finals, Northfield Mount Hermon turned that around scoring an overtime “golden” goal to cap a truly remarkably year.
