At a dinner held in his honor at Cumming House on October 6, 2010, Mr. MacLeod was presented a Kent chair symbolic of the
Independence Foundation Teaching Chair to which he was appointed last spring. This is Kent’s first teaching chair established by the Board of Trustees in 1966 with a grant from the Independence Foundation of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the purpose of recognizing “excellence in teaching.”
James C. MacLeod received his B.A. in Economics from the University of Delaware and his M.A.T. from Trenton State College in Trenton, New Jersey. He taught at the Hunn School in Princeton, New Jersey before joining the Kent faculty in 1982.
In his career spanning nearly three decades at Kent, Mr. MacLeod has ably taught Mathematics and served as Dean of Students, as well as coached Football, Basketball and Tennis. He has been advisor to numerous clubs and activities, including Diversity Club and Chess Club. Mr. MacLeod serves this School with great skill and devotion.
Mr. MacLeod and his wife Caroline have two daughters, Carrie ’93 and Jaime ’95. They have four granddaughters.
