Ulysses A. Andrews IV of the Mathematics Department has been named KENT's 2010 Wentz Pre-Engineering Program Fellow.
Ulysses attended the Miquon School and then the Germantown Academy School in Pennsylvania. He graduated as a Mathematics major from Princeton University and then received a Masters degree in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Since joining the Kent School faculty in 2008, Ulysses has been very involved in engineering education and has demonstrated the ability to make substantial contributions to Kent's Pre-Engineering curriculum.
As a Wentz fellow, Ulysses will explore the mathematical properties of structures. His work will use exercises based on special construction projects, focusing in particular on design, stress and simulation aspects. He will test the properties of various materials and form conclusions about how to examine questions of aesthetics, function, durability, and cost.
He intends to do coursework in data mining so that he can contribute to Kent's future growth by assisting in the exploration of topics such as marine biology and climate change.
