At its Biennial Conference held in San Antonio, Texas on November 19, 2010, the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES) presented Richardson W. Schell the John D. Verdery Award recognizing him for outstanding service to Episcopal schools and education. NAES honored Fr. Schell for his thirty years as headmaster & rector of Kent School, his contribution to the Association as a member of the Governing Board, and his collaboration with Episcopal schools across the country and abroad.
The award is named for the late John D. Verdery, long-time headmaster of Wooster School in Danbury, Connecticut and a co-founder of the National Association of Episcopal Schools.
The National Association of Episcopal Schools supports, serves and advocates for the vital work and ministry of those who serve over 1,200 schools, Early Childhood Education programs and school start-ups throughout The Episcopal Church.
