While most students keep up to date with a variety of online resources, the campus has seen a resurgence in interest in more traditional means of communication as well as a feeling that students would like to help keep each other informed on world events. While they use the more than a hundred printed and more than a thousand online periodicals available through the John Gray Park Library at Kent, they feel the need to make a more active contribution to the spread of news across campus.
These news-conscious students note that boarding school tends to insulate them from what’s happening “out there.” Several different student groups have launched initiatives to combat that. One group delivers daily copies of a major newspaper and weekly news magazine to each dorm common room and the Student Center. Another, the KSNCB (Kent School News Campus Broadcasting) is revamping the campus radio station as a video broadcast center where students will produce and broadcast/podcast news stories that will interest the community. Another group is starting a Headlines Club. They’re interested in getting the top stories out to their peers to create greater awareness within the student body.
