Varsity Hockey Coach Matt Herr Assists Team USA to Gold at the 2010 Five Nations Tournament in Switzerland

Coach Matt Herr recently served as Assistant Coach for the U.S. National Under-17 Select Hockey Team. The tournament, held in Hutwill, Switzerland, included teams from the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, Switzerland and the United States. Players on the U.S. Team came from around the country including California, Michigan, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and New York.

Team USA defeated the Czech Republic in game one, lost to the Slovakia in game two, but then came back to defeat Switzerland in game three and Germany in the finals.

“This was a fantastic experience coaching some of the top 16 year olds in the country and representing the United States as a coach,” noted Coach Herr. “To see players from all different backgrounds come together in such a short period of time was a special experience. These tournaments can be tough because most of these countries have been playing together and training for this tournament for an extended period of time. This experience will allow me to bring some new ideas and training techniques back to Kent.”
