At Henley, The Kent Alumni boat drew City of Cambridge Rowing Club as their first opponent in the Thames Challenge Cup and won by 3½ lengths. In the next round, they raced Broxbourne Rowing Club. In another strong effort, they pulled away from Broxbourne finishing 3 lengths in front with a time of 6:35. Though they had a great run and reached the quarterfinals, the Kent Alumni boat fell by 2¾ lengths to the eventual winners of the cup - Upper Yarra Rowing Club from Australia.
Here is the alumni crew at the Leander Club with Ted Bainbridge who coached them out of Henley Rowing Club. Pat holds the Leander Oar, a gift to Kent in honor of Hart Perry.
In addition to the Kent Alumni Boat, two other Kent alumni competed at Henley this summer: Emily Reynolds ’07 with Princeton University in the Remenham Challenge Cup and Christian Reynolds ’10 who rowed for the University of California, Berkeley – who equaled a course record set only two days before in winning in the Temple Challenge Cup.
