The girls of Kent Varsity Squash topped a recent tournament of six schools, hosted by Hopkins School. Miss Porters, Berkshire, Canterbury, Pomfret, Hopkins and Kent all traveled to New Haven for the day of matches. Lesea Bourke, Arden Reynolds and Adrienne Sieverding, one, two and three on the Kent ladder, all won their flight at #1, #2 and #3, respectively. Following the strongest season in twenty years has been a major challenge for the team this year. Overall, the girls’ record does not accurately reflect how the year has progressed. Though match wins have been scarce, wins in individual games and matches have been plentiful, and losses have often gone to the five game limit. Coach Runquist said of the group, “The team is making great progress from week to week. They have had to fill some very big holes with the loss of the 2, 3, 4 and 6 players from last year’s team. However, each match has provided a valuable learning experience; both the newcomers and the returning players are adding to their skills each week.”
