Fall One-Acts: Comedies Without Errors

Fall One-Acts: Comedies Without ErrorsThis year’s fall one-act plays, directed by Mr. Foote, can best be described as risqué, punchy, and thoroughly hilarious.  Put simply, the audience is in for an hour or so of pure hysteria. Mr. Foote has selected three one-acts, each running between ten and twenty minutes.

Mr. Foote had a goal in terms of casting, which was that he “wanted to make sure everyone had a good role.”  It seems that he has succeeded, as each actor has plenty of lines and is truly suited to their role.  This year Mr. Foote is working with an exceptionally talented cast of underformers, all of whom are also participating in Shakespeare’s Comedie of Errors, directed by Mr. Stewart.  This is an especially rewarding opportunity for the cast of the one-acts (most of whom are new to Kent Theatre) who not only get to  shine in Mr. Foote’s short plays but also take part in a large-scale Shakespeare production.  These gifted and promising underformers can benefit from working with both directors and obtaining feedback from two different perspectives.  Every actor involved in the drama program this fall has great potential and will surely grow as performers from this experience.

The plays performed include Time Flies, Arabian Nights, and Babel’s in Arms, all by David Ives.  Time Flies is the witty and charming tale of two mayflies that live a lifetime in a day.  “It’s a really cool play,” notes one of the cast members.  Arabian Nights is the story of Norman, a tourist abroad who falls in love with a shopkeeper with the help of an interpreter. In Babel’s in Arms, two Mesopotamian construction workers debate the merits of building the Tower of Babel.
