Bruce N. Whitman ’51 was recently honored by the United Service Organization (USO) at its 48th Annual Armed Forces Gala and Gold Medal Dinner in New York City.
Mr. Whitman is the president and CEO of FlightSafety International. He is also co-chairman of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation.
Bruce Whitman joined FlightSafety International in 1961 as assistant to the president, elected vice-president and a director later that year, executive vice-president in 1962, and promoted to his present position in 2003. He served on the Advisory Council of the National Business Aviation Association, the Executive Committee of the FlightSafety Foundation Board, and is a former director of Petroleum Helicopters, Aviall and FlightSafety Boeing Training International. He is currently co-chairman of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation and also serves on the Boards of PASSEUR Aerospace, General Aviation Manufacturers Association, ORBIS International, aerospace Industries Association, NATA Air Charter Safety Foundation, Civil Air patrol and Wings Club. He is a trustee of the Falcon Foundation, Kent School, National World War II Museum, and Director Emeritus of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Trinity College, and earned the ratings of pilot, navigator, and bombardier in the U.S. Air Force, serving with the Strategic Air Command. He attended George Washington University Law School before joining FlightSafety.
