At the NEIRAs, the KENT Boys First Boat finishes first and the Boys take home the team trophy.
Both the Boys and the Girls are heading to the Nationals!
With a final regular season record of 28-1, the boys First Boat won the New England Championship in convincing fashion, crossing the finish line a full 5 seconds in front of race rivals Andover, Exeter, St. Paul’s, Salisbury, and Hanover.
Twenty-two school rowing programs with boy’s eights are members of the NEIRA, and only 18 qualify for the chance to compete for the Fredrick Herbert Sill Trophy. During the heats in the morning, Kent defeated 5 opponents to earn a lane in the finals on Saturday afternoon.
In addition to the success of the first boat, both the second and third boats won silver medals, earning Kent the overall team trophy, named in honor of Hart Perry. Thus, Kent brought home two of the three trophies at the regatta named in honor of past coaches of Kent crews.
The first boats for both the Boys and the Girls will continue their season by competing in the Youth Rowing National Championships in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 11th.
The Boys will then head overseas for the Henley Royal Regatta in July.
