GE computer Science Win

Congratulations to the KENT Advanced Placement (AP) computer science class students who placed second overall as a team at the General Electric (GE) Computer Science Competition held at GE Corporate Headquarters in Fairfield, CT.  One team member was the top overall scorer at the competition, bringing the first place individual win to KENT for the second time in three years.  Another team member also placed in the top 10, coming in seventh place as an individual. Kevin Saxton of the Mathematics Department, who teaches the AP computer science course, coached the team in preparation for the contest.

The Computer Science Contest is open to students and teams from public, private and parochial high schools in Connecticut. According to GE's website, “the event is designed to identify and recognize students who are proficient using Java and help prepare them for the AP Test in Computer Science. The 90-minute test, based on an introduction to computer science curriculum using Java, is prepared by professors from the Departments of Computer and Software Engineering in the School of Engineering at Fairfield University. The tests are scored within 45 minutes after completion and prizes are awarded to the schools of the top three teams as well as to the top ten students.”
