Swim Team Makes History

Swim TeamThe 2009-2010 Boys Varsity Swim Team had a remarkable season.  Along with the diving team, the swimmers finished the regular season undefeated with a record of 7-0-1.

At the Founders League Championship, Kent finished an impressive second place behind a strong Choate-Rosemary squad but the next weekend, Kent beat Choate at the New England championship and finished seventh overall out of a field of 26 teams.

A number of swimmers, some first year swimmers and others seasoned, contributed to the successes during the regular season and in the post-season. Although there were many noteworthy swims, highlights from the New England Championship are listed here. Leading off the championship in the 200 yard medley relay Jason Adams ’10, team co-captain Benton Bair ’10, Blair Steele ’11 and Mike Lindburg ’11 won first place with an All-American and school record time of 1:36.68.  In the 50 yard freestyle event, Lindburg took fifth place overall and in the 100 yard freestyle, he earned ninth place with a school record breaking time of 48.56 seconds.  In the 100 yard butterfly, Adams again took first place with another All-American and school record time of 49.91 seconds.  Kent’s 200 yard freestyle relay finished in 8th place (Christian Naylor ’10, Owen Long ’11, Shaw Bridges ’11 and Blair Steele).  In the 100 yard backstroke, Adams finished second with another All-American time of 49.99 seconds.  In the 100 yard breast stroke, Bair set a new school record of 1.02.55 and finished in eighth place at the meet.  In the final event of the championship, the 400 yard freestyle relay, Kent finished fifth (Adams, Bair, Bridges and Lindburg).

It was an impressive conclusion for an impressive squad of Kent Swimmers
