The Kent Mathletes have been busy placing in top spots of several competitions held throughout New England:
The team placed fourth out of 85 schools in the team round and one member placed second overall in the individual round at the 21st Annual Invitational Mathematics Meet held at Worchester Polytechnic School. Both team and individual rounds consist of challenging secondary mathematics curriculum questions. Students have only a pencil and paper with which to solve the timed problems.
Four mathletes achieved perfect scores and the team earned an overall score of 29 out of 30 points in the first of six New England Math League challenges. Each student works independently for 30 minutes on the same six problems; the topics vary and are not known beforehand. The total score of the top scorers in each contest are added to make the school's overall score. Math Team advisor and mathematics department head Dr. Ben Nadire notes that these results are the best for a first competition for the Math Team and the second best score in its history.
