Marie L. Yovanovitch ’76 Confirmed by Senate as U.S. Ambassador to Armenia

Marie L. Yovanovitch ’76 was recently confirmed by the United Stated Senate as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Armenia. She is expected to arrive in Armenia in September.

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Ambassador Yovanovitch most recently served as U.S. Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic. She has also served as Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Deputy Chief of Mission in Kiev, Ukraine, and as Deputy Director of the Russia Desk at the Department of State and as a political officer in Moscow.

Ambassador Yovanovitch earned her bachelor's degree from Princeton University. Both her mother and father, Nadia and the late Michel Yovanovitch, were distinguished members of the Kent faculty, teaching German and French and Russian, respectively, for nearly three decades.
