Squash New England Tournament Dvision CWere you keeping up with boys varsity squash this past term? Our very own Kent men finished off their season by snagging the first place trophy at the New England Class C Division tournament. This past winter, the squash boys put in a lot of effort, to say the least. The team competed against Division A and B teams throughout the season preparing them to compete in the Division C for New England’s. Captain Wooley Pardoe ’09 comments that winning the tournament was “a great end to the season, because we finally played teams that were equal to our ability.” According to their head-coach Dr. Krueger, the boys did a great job and “came in with a good chance of finishing towards the top.”
Pardoe, Alex Rodzianko ’10, Brandon Bottini ’09, and Sam Daniel ’09 were among the top players who all reached the finals. The win was an especially great close to the season because the team has had to overcome quite a few obstacles. Pardoe reports that aside from only being placed to play against A and B Division teams, the squash boys had to adjust to using the new international softball courts that every other school has installed besides Kent. Although the team practiced on hardball courts, they were forced to make the transition. It looks like the transition suited them quite nicely, as they were certainly winners at the end of the season. Krueger added that he was “very proud of each individual performance.”
