Benefits
The School offers a competitive and comprehensive benefit package to our employees and their families. We regularly review external benchmarks and our current service levels to ensure that we are offering the best possible benefit coverage at an effective cost.
Health Insurance
The health plan is a point-of-service plan administered by Aetna US Healthcare. There is in-network as well as out-of-network. Prescription drug coverage is available through a retail and mail order program. Faculty may enroll on the first of the month following their date of hire. Employees and their dependents are also eligible for free use of the School physician at the School’s Health Center for routine medical matters.
Dental Insurance
The dental plan is a preferred provider plan administered by Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield. The plan has advantageous in-network coverage as well as out-of-network coverage and offers a low plan and high plan depending on the services that are needed. Faculty may enroll on the first of the month following three months of employment.
Group Supplemental Retirement Annuity Plan
The Group Supplemental Retirement Annuity Plan allows you to tax defer between 1% and 6% of your salary with Kent matching 50 cents on the dollar up to a maximum of 3%. The plan is administered by TIAA CREF. Employees have a choice of 10 investment fund options and take responsibility for managing their own account. Participation is voluntary but all are encouraged to enroll during initial month of employment.
Pension Plan
All full time employees are eligible to enroll in the TIAA CREF 403(b) Plan on January 1 or July 1 following the completion of 6 months of continuous employment. The School contributes on the employee’s behalf the equivalent of 8% of his or her salary. There is no cost to the employee to participate in this plan. Like the 401(k) plan, there is a choice of 10 investment funds and the individual manages his or her investments. The vesting requirement is 1/3 vesting after 1 year (12 months) of service, 2/3 after 2 years and 100% vesting after 3 years.
Life Insurance
The School pays premiums providing 1 year’s annual salary in life insurance coverage. The long-term disability plan affords salary benefits during a protracted illness or disability. Following a 26 week waiting period, 60% of your salary is payable to age 65 during the period of your disability. In addition, Kent School covers its employees when they are traveling on School business. This coverage includes accidental death and dismemberment benefits, disability coverage and medical expense coverage. There is a three-month waiting period for life insurance and disability coverage.
Flexible Spending Plan
A Flexible Spending plan is offered to enable employees to pay for unreimbursed medical and dependent care expenses and insurance premiums with pre-designated, pre-tax dollars rather than after tax compensation. Enrollment is only on January 1 following 3 months of employment.
Child Care Facility
KENT School operates its own childcare facility, the KENT School Early Learning Center. The center is in operation September through June, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. The facility was built by Kent School to accommodate the children of its KENT faculty and staff. Faculty and staff receive an employee discount on tuition as compared to the rate for outside-of-School enrollments.
