Spiritual Life

St. Joseph's chapel is right in the center of campus, and in some ways, it will be at the center of your experience here. Your spiritual exploration will be part of your intellectual growth. It will give you a moral basis for decision-making. It will be both stimulating and comforting. And it will make your life richer and your education deeper.

Everyone attends chapel on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You might hear student musicians, accompanied by the magnificent organ. Or you might hear a guest speaker talk about a world event or a faculty member talk about something happening right here at school. Sometimes the most moving, informative talks are given by your fellow students. Chapel can be light-hearted or sometimes quite serious. And no matter what religious background or secular tradition you come from, you will find it welcoming and supportive.

On Sundays, Eucharist is celebrated in St. Joseph's. Roman Catholic students attend Mass in town, and on Friday, Jewish students attend services at the synagogue in nearby New Milford. Muslim and Hindu students explore their religious heritage through individual study and reflection.

All of this would make the Reverend Frederick Herbert Sill quite happy. He was the one who founded Kent in 1906. Though several New England boarding schools started off with Episcopal affiliations and beliefs, Kent is the only one founded by an Episcopal monk. Our values and traditions are deeply ingrained in the campus culture. We've nourished those traditions and kept them at the heart of our school.
