THE BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM Coach Jason Coulombe writes his thoughts on the accomplishments of his squad thus far. "We have experienced an unbelievable amount of health issues-a string of injuries and illnesses that has impeded our performance. However, our depleted squad showed a remarkable amount of courage and grit this past Wednesday versus a talented Hotchkiss team. Despite an early deficit, the guys clawed their way back, led primarily by Captain Henry Pendergast and Evan Battle. The game went back and forth in the second half, with major contributions by Leon Tambue and Eric Tuder. Our team would simply not be denied down the stretch, led offensively by Travis Berry. Captain Stefon Williams showed tremendous toughness grabbing several rebounds late, and our enthusiastic bench gave us great energy. In the end, we prevailed, 70-63 in front of a terrific home crowd." |

HALEY PARKER '13 Haley Parker leads the girls swim team in points scored this season, no small accomplishment when there are several talented athletes competing for that same goal. She has earned five 1st place winners, four 2nd's, and eight 3rd place finishes. But more importantly than the points she has scored is the example that distinguishes Haley from her teammates. She is always willing to swim what is needed by the team, and has stepped up this season to swim the 200 Medley, one of the toughest events in high school swimming. In addition, she sets a great example in practice, leading her lane and giving her all in every set, every day. |

HADLEY BIAGIOTTI '12 This past Saturday, Hadley Biagiotti helped the Varsity girls basketball team to a 49-35 win over Kingswood Oxford, with a superb all-around effort. Scoring 12 points and crashing the boards for key rebounds, Hadley exhibited the consistent hustle and determination that has made her a true leader of the team all season. In practices, Hadley can always be counted on to be focused, hard-working, and coachable. An all around team player, Hadley has all of those "intangibles" that don't always show in the box score, but are absolutely crucial to a team's success. |

RYAN ROSENTHAL '12 In the last three contests, Ryan Rosenthal notched two goals and two assists. He has led the team in goals scored throughout the year, and scored his fourteenth and fifteenth goals versus Trinity-Pawling. His second goal of the game was a short-handed effort in which he got his own rebound, and fired it into the back of the T.P. net. Ryan is an assistant captain on the team, and one of the fastest players in all of prep hockey. Despite being a "marked man" by the T.P. coaches, and gathering increased attention, Ryan nonetheless managed to score the short-handed goal in the final stanza. Congratulations, Ryan! |

ROBERT ALFIERI '15 Robert Alfieri has played remarkably well in the last 2 games. He scored 24 points against the Master's School, as Kent won on the road, 71-54. He followed that effort with 19 points against Avon as Kent rallied from a 10 point deficit to fall short in the last seconds, 47-45. Robert is a standout player on the team as a freshman, and he is the team leader in rebounds and blocked shots. He is an incredibly positive presence on the team, a pleasure to coach. |

MAYA DUFF '15 Maya has been instrumental to the success of the girls J.V. basketball team. She has been the leading scorer, and dominated the paint with her post moves. Her active defensive efforts were crucial in a win versus Taft earlier in the season, and her hustle at Westover was so influential that she was rarely subbed out of the game. Maya is dedicated and hard working, often staying after practice to work on her shooting. We will be looking to Maya on Wednesday, in a game against rival Hotchkiss, to bring both her strong offensive and defensive efforts to the floor for another win. |

LAUREN KEARNEY '14 Lauren Kearney has done in two recent meets what swimmers aim for, but rarely accomplish. She dropped time in her main event twice. It is the 500 yard freestyle in which Lauren shines. In the Hopkins Grammer meet, Lauren set a new personal record of 6:26.37, and just three days later at Williston, Lauren dropped an astonishing six seconds to set a new personal best of 6:20.05. While out-touched by Williston's winner by less than one second, Lauren hung on to second place, out-touching their second swimmer by less than one third of a second. Lauren was also instrumental in the 200 yard Medley Relay that beat Williston, and she stepped up in the 200 IM. No doubt, this is the first of many amazing meets to come for Lauren. |

MARIO HYMAN '12 Co-captain Mario Hyman has helped lead the team to an impressive 5-1 record. In each of the season's meets, he has selflessly swum a number of different events, depending on the needs of the team. He has swum critical legs of each of our relays, the individual medley, and both sprints and distance freestyle with impressive success. His versatility, attitude, and ability make him a key element in the team's success. Mario's approach to practice, however, has been what makes him a true leader of his peers. Each day, he pushes himself in the most rigorous and challenging sets, helping to set a high bar for his teammates to reach for, as they strive to improve. |

ERIC TUDER '12 Eric Tuder has proven to be an invaluable addition to the boys' varsity basketball team. An honor role student, he brings the same work ethic to the court and the weight room as he does to his academic work. Congratulations, Eric! |

JULIE BENGIS '12 Julie Bengis has had an outstanding season and career at Kent. She is a great netminder, and a tremendous school citizen and Senior Prefect. Her save percentage currently stands at .916, and her goals/against average is at 2.21, both outstanding marks. |

KAYLEEN MURRAY '12 In Kent's first home game of the season versus Hopkins Grammar, Kayleen Murray was a force to be reckoned with. In addition to scoring 15 points and dishing out 2 assists, her aggressive defense contributed to 2 steals, 4 caused mistakes, and one blocked shot. Under the boards, Kayleen grabbed 10 rebounds, 7 of which were under Kent's own basket. Over all, it was just fantastic game for our senior Captain, leading the team to a 58-21 win over Hopkins Grammar. |

T.J. BOULGER '12 T.J. Boulger has been an integral part of the J.V. hockey team for 2 seasons. As a senior, he showcased his fine leadership in a memorable individual performance in a decisive win over rival Loomis Chaffee. With the teams deadlocked at 2-2 after 2 periods, it was T.J. who led the way in a devastating Kent 6 goal surge. He registered three goals and an assist in what turned out to be a lop-sided 8-2 Kent win. T.J. is an intelligent player, and he knows how to score goals. Kent is just beginning to see what will ultimately be a brilliant season for T. J. and his teammates. Congratulations, T.J.! |

REBECCA PLACE '14 Coach Jesse Klingabiel writes, "Off to great start to the J.V. Ice Hockey season, Rebecca agreed to switch and play defense for our young team. She did a great job in our first 2 games, but given the chance on Saturday to play her more natural forward role, she took full advantage. Scoring in her opening shift to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead, Rebecca was terrific at wing all afternoon. She added another goal in the second period, and worked relentlessly on both ends of the ice. Rebecca is a quiet competitor who leads by example, and is respected by coaches and teammates alike." Congratulation, Rebecca!!! |

MARCO SAGLIOCCA '12 Marco Sagliocca has emerged as a leader and catalyst for the J.V. basketball team. He scored 11 points against Choate-Rosemary Hall, as Kent rallied from 10 points down to make it close in the final seconds, with Choate prevailing. Last Saturday versus Loomis-Chaffee, Marco had 8 points. Kent took the lead in the last minute of the game. With Loomis answering, and leading by a single point, Marco was fouled with just 2.7 seconds left. He calmly sank both ends of the one and one to give Kent a 41-40 lead. He then broke up a last-second desperation pass to seal the victory for his team in a memorable finish." Congratulations, Marco!! |
