2005-2006 Varsity Girls' Lacrosse

Schedule/Results Athletes of the Week

Coach: Liza Davis

After graduating nine seniors in 2005, Girls Varsity Lacrosse faced a significant challenge rebuilding and establishing new momentum. After a successful pre-season trip to Orlando, Florida in March, the squad got the season off to a great start, winning its first four games, including the team’s home opener against Gunnery. Under the leadership of senior captains Erin Evans and Kerry McKenna, the team posted impressive wins over Suffield, Canterbury, and Westover before finally losing its first game against Westminster, one of the league’s premier teams. A win over Kingswood-Oxford and a close contest against the Berkshire Bears under their lights were additional season highlights.

Despite falling short of the team’s goals in terms of record, the KGVL squad this year added to its roster a number of talented and experienced new players. New junior Charlotte Ferguson, with 41 goals and 7 assists, led Kent’s attack in scoring this spring. Other scoring leaders include newcomer Nora Parry with 30 goals and 7 assist, Katie Hubbell with 21 goals and 5 assists and Freshmen Ali Lospinuso with 12 goals and 4 assists. Center Julia Wood led the teams’ strong midfield and defensive units along with captains Erin Evans and Kerry McKenna, and Katie Goddard Duncan - an impressive defenseman though in her first year playing the sport. WNEPSLA all-star honors this season went to Ferguson and Goddard Duncan and the Founders League All-Stars were Wood and McKenna. With three graduating seniors, the squad is looking ahead to next season with optimism, particularly with experienced players taking over leadership roles.

A Word from the Coach: Liza Davis

The Kent School Girls Varsity Lacrosse program has consistently been based on a strong tradition of competitive distinction and sportsmanship. Recognizing the value of interscholastic sports in the personal development of young women, the lacrosse program looks to challenge its players both physically and mentally as students, athletes and leaders. Learning to build a strong and supportive team dynamic is also considered an important goal of the lacrosse program, and is something that sets us apart from many other teams.

In addition to the varsity and junior varsity squads, because of the growing popularity of the sport, Kent has recently added a skills team to its program to ensure that all interested students have a chance to play and learn the game. The continued success of the program each year depends on the interest and enthusiasm of its incoming players. If you have any questions about lacrosse at Kent please feel free to contact me at davisl@kent-school.edu or 860-927-6242. I have been teaching and coaching at Kent for the past three years (with the varsity this past year) after serving as the head varsity lacrosse coach at Westover School and playing for four years on the varsity team at Kenyon College.
