2005-2006 Varsity Boys'
Lacrosse
Coach: Randall Hobbs
Boys Lacrosse began the spring season in Orlando, Florida for spring training at the Walt Disney World facility. It was obvious that there was excellent team chemistry and enough talent to be competitive in one of the top leagues in the country. With a solid nucleus of returning defensemen in JP Binette, Marc Trostle, and Andrew Davis, and newcomers Greg Reagan, and Eric Hagarty, the defense was poised to be very dependable. In Florida, the defense was successful keeping teams form scoring.
It was also clear that four key players - Captains Justin Williams and Harry Seherr-Thoss and Post Graduates Jeff Price and Brad Tunis, would provide the bulk of the offensive scoring. They were a tough foursome to stop especially on our man-up team, accounting for over 75% of our total point production.
Too frequently, the team would get behind early in games only to mount a come back. One example of this was against a talented Avon Old Farms team in which Kent got down 8-1 at halftime. The team then staged a major comeback making the score 9-7 in the fourth quarter. After a couple of untimely penalties, Avon pulled away and won 13-9 but the team knew that they could rally when they needed to. Another example came against Taft, in which the team fell behind 4-1 at halftime, setting up a dramatic come from behind 8-7 victory in triple overtime. After an important face-off win by Joe Spagna, Tunis scored the game winner 45 seconds into the third overtime - a game all will remember for a long time. The team finished with a 7-8 record and with two victories to end the season and momentum to take us up to an even higher level next year.
Tunis was named the team MVP and earned first team all-league, Mike Bonanza was given the Captains award, Trostle was named Most Improved and to the Academic All-American squad. Seherr-Thoss and Williams were awarded the Donald K. Gowan bowl for doing the most for Kent lacrosse.
