Girls Varsity Hockey completed the 2005-2006 season with a record of 5-14-3 though the record does not clearly reflect the team’s heart and competitiveness. The squad began the season within only 13 players – 11 skaters and 2 goalies. Because of injuries and illness, only 5 of these 13 would play in al 22 games. Despite the difficulties posed by having so few players (several games were played with only eight skaters competing), Kent played with spirit and determination throughout the campaign.
The senior leadership led by Captains Erin Evans and Christine Fuchs kept the team focused and inspired. Fuchs suffered a setback in December, when she broke her wrist, but her return in late January gave the team an added boost on offense. Evans played and practiced hard and was a great leader by example. New sixth former Jackie Duncan was the offensive force of the team, totaling 25 goals and 10 assists. Betsy Ray saw much ice time as one of only three defensemen, and played steadily. Michelle Gintoli contributed as a forward and defenseman, but unfortunately missed the last third of the season with illness. Various underclassmen made positive contributions throughout the season. Defensemen Katie Duncan (21 points) and Monica Valente (13 points) were second and third in scoring. Nicky Hynes played with spirit offensively and defensively, and was the second forward in points with 12. Fifth former Heather Lawlor improved steadily throughout the season, and rookies Emily Lawlor and Jackie Parker contributed greatly in their first season of Founders’ League play. In the nets, Kent received steady play from its keepers. New fourth former Josee Caissie posted a 3.45 goal against average and a .888 save percentage. Veteran Siobhan Lavery had a 3.18 GAA with a save percentage of .855
