2005-2006 Varsity Boys' Ice Hockey

Schedule/Results Athletes of the Week

Final record: 11-13-1 (5-6-1 at home and 5-7-0 away; 4-10-1 Founders League; 7th place out of 10 teams)

From the first moments we stepped on the ice for try-outs, we were on a mission to prove to everyone that we were a much better team than everyone gave us credit for. This season we went through many ups and downs, but to the players’ credit they came out and worked hard everyday in practice and ended up creating some lasting memories from this season. The 2005-2006 Kent Hokey Team should be proud of its accomplishments this year and the improvement made during the season. The success of the team this year was demonstrated by some of the great teams we tied and beat this year. Over the last seven games of the season we confronted some tough competition, but managed to finish with a 5-2 record. This demonstrates the kind of character we had on this team and the pride they had in being Kent Hockey players.

Highlights from this season include a 2-1-1 record in overtime games. This edition of the Kent hockey team was never out of a game and we always fought hard until the final whistle sounded. One of our most significant games of the season was our home tilt against the eventual New England Champion, Salisbury. They only lost one game all season and were tied twice, and one of those ties came here at Kent. Kent came back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to earn a hard fought 2-2 tie. We also came back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Deerfield on the road in another hard fought contest filled with adversity. Our biggest win of the season, however, was against rival Hotchkiss, who was at the time ranked 9th in New England. Kent was ahead 3-1 in the third period, and yet we allowed Hotchkiss to come back and tie the game. We pressed hard toward the end of the game and yet we still moved to overtime. After a great save in our end by Kyle Rank, Captain Mike Blundon chipped the puck off the boards and sent assistant captain Ben Cook in alone on the Hotchkiss keeper and he buried the overtime winner. It was a great team victory and one that will be remembered for years to come.

Our offence was led by Post Graduates Matt Czerkowicz (15-23-38) and Patrick Aldridge (14-19-33) while senior captain Mike Blundon (3-14-17) and captain elect Sean Tuohy (2-14-16) led the defense. We were backstopped all season by Kyle Rank (2.87 GAA and .912 Save % with 2 shutouts) who was selected as the goaltender for the All New England All Star Team. Rank and Czerkowicz were selected as Founders League All Stars, while and Blundon, Czerkowicz, and Rank played in a post season All Scholastic Tournament. Other key contributors included Justin Williams and Marc Trostle who came to play everyday they put on the Kent uniform.
