2005 - 2006 Kent Equestrian
Team

Seniors 2005-2006
Kent School’s Equestrian Team had a challenging season with most riders spending the entire term riding without their stirrups. Thos poses a challenge to most team members yet the exercises without stirrups leads to an increase in strength and improved positioning. Coach Michael Page commented on the improvements made by all Kent’s riders, highlighting those of seniors Chelsea Brauner, Helen Jenny, and Kara DeDonato.
Two of the team’s riders took part in competitions in Florida this term. Fourth former Sarah Tredennick competed for several weeks during January and February at the Wellington Horse Show while fifth former Stephanie Underwood also competed in Florida at the Gulf Coast Classic. Underwood placed second in the junior hunters and sixth in the Maclay classes. All in all the team had a successful winter term and looks forward to getting outdoors this spring.
Kent School Riding Program
The mission of the Kent School Riding Program is to develop competent riders and knowledgeable equestrians, and nurture their life-long commitment to the sport of riding. The program emphasizes the classical theory of riding and teaches the tradition, history and culture surrounding these riding principles
The program offers quality instruction in Hunters, Jumpers, Equitation and Combined Training to intermediate and advanced riders. This instruction gives students the knowledge, ability and tools to compete at their individual level. The program focuses on maintaining and improving the riders’ skills throughout the school year, with competition limited to individual interest. The Kent School Riding Program strives to provide students with the training necessary for riding at the collegiate level.
The Kent School Riding Program is recognized as one of the leading, co-educational academic equestrian programs offered in the US. At Kent School, riding instruction and training occurs six days per week for two hours each afternoon. Instruction is in small groups according to ability. Students participating in the riding program may board a horse at the Kent School stables or may use one of the school-owned horses for the term.
The Head Instructor, Michael Page, is an Olympic Medal winner and served as the U.S. Equestrian Team Chef D’Equipe in 1992. In addition, Michael has judged the AHSA/ASPCA National Equitation finals and the National Intercollegiate finals.
