Farhat (Phil) Muhawe may be the finest tennis player ever to play at Kent. After marching through an undefeated regular season – losing only a single match all spring – he competed at the New England Tournament held at Choate on May 28. As he had done throughout the spring campaign, Phil easily dispatched of three competitors in the preliminary rounds before defeating his counterpart from Suffield in the finals. In the championship match he overcame a 4-3 deficit in the first set to battle back with a 6-4, 6-2 win, claiming the New England Championship. Phil finished the spring with a 23-0 record. In addition to his on-court fetes of excellence, he was also a leader and team player. Recruited by many leading Division 1 colleges, he will attend West Point where next year he will further his tennis career.
