2004-2005 Varsity Boys'
Swimming and Diving
Season Summary
Drew Davis had an exciting year on the boards. After winning numerous dual meets, he eventually destroyed a long-standing Kent Pool record. He had a lifetime best performance and broke 200, an important diving milestone. At Western New England’s, he medaled by placing 5th, which is one place higher than the pervious year’s results. During the New England Diving Championship, David faced considerable more competition, and medaled by placing seventh, an improvement over last year’s tenth place performance. He also posted lifetime best scores in 11 dives, and scored valuable points for his swimming teammates.
The Boys’ Swim Team had another outstanding season under the leadership of captains Tim Henderson and Duncan Littlejohn with the swimmers pulling together for a 6-3 record for the dual meet season – one of the team’s best records in years.
The squad made remarkable strides this year, besting Kingswood-Oxford, Cheshire, Canterbury, Westminster, and Avon-Old-Farms. However, the season highlight was the home meet against Suffield Academy, during which the boys pulled out a win at the final relay comprised of Tim Henderson ’05, Alex Goez ’05, Toby Childs ’05 and Tim Anderson ’06 , thus winning the meet by a score of 94-89.
From the beginning, it was clear Kent possessed a dynamic group of swimmers of varying skill levels. With thirteen returning letter winners (including nine seniors, Eduardo Black, Carlo Cisco, Sam Crawford, Bennett Gerli, Jerome Noel, Childs, Goez, Henderson and Littlejohn), there is little doubt the team benefited from the invaluable experience these leaders had gained over the years. As the squad blossomed to 28 swimmers, these returning veterans proved to be a positive influence for the fifteen swimmers new to Kent swimming.
This mixture of outstanding leadership, enthusiasm, and hard work, resulted in a 3rd place finish in our division at the Western New England Championships, and 112th overall at the New England Championships. Of particular note at New England’s was Toby Childs’ time of 22.83 in 50 freestyle resulting in a 13th place finish, Brooks Gerli’s 50.37 in the 100 freestyle with a 15th place finish and Tim Anderson’s 17th place finishes in both the 500 freestyle (5:11.70) and the 200 freestyle (1:54.12).
