Girl’s varsity lacrosse finished the season with a solid 8 wins and 5 losses. Led by a strong senior class, including captains Joanna Glass ’05 and Suzanne Willis ‘05, the squad posted impressive victories over teams such as Millbrook, Miss Porters and Berkshire. Throughout the season, the team depended on the impressive skills of its leading scorers Caroline Thomas ’05 (45 goals, 16 assists) and Alex Blackwell (37 goals, 6 assists). Other contributors to the team’s offensive attack were Brit Allen ’05, Kendra Schwidt ’05 and Jordan Pyers ’05. When paired with the defensive core of Glass, Willis, and Liv Power’s ’07, the team presented a formidable challenge to all but the top teams in the league. The team’s success also depended heavily on the tenacity of its fiery goalie, Justin McLaughlin ‘05, whose stick work and reflexes improved tremendously during her second season in the cage. After graduating nine players this spring, the team will look to a talented group of rising seniors, including newly elected captains Erin Evans ’06 and Kerry McKenna ’06, to help lead KGVL to another successful season.
A Word from
the Coach: Liza
Davis
The Kent School Girls Varsity Lacrosse
program has consistently been based on a strong tradition
of competitive distinction and sportsmanship. Recognizing
the value of interscholastic sports in the personal development
of young women, the lacrosse program looks to challenge its
players both physically and mentally as students, athletes
and leaders. Learning to build a strong and supportive team
dynamic is also considered an important goal of the lacrosse
program, and is something that sets us apart from many other
teams.
In addition to the varsity and junior varsity
squads, because of the growing popularity of the sport, Kent
has recently added a skills team to its program to ensure
that all interested students have a chance to play and learn
the game. The continued success of the program each year
depends on the interest and enthusiasm of its incoming players.
