Season Summary

The baseball team jumped off to a fabulous start this spring, posting a record of 6-1. The squad traveled to Florida for spring training, beating opponents from Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio while on the southern trip. Upon return from spring training, the success continued with early season wins versus Canterbury, Trinity Pawling, and Hotchkiss. The victory over Hotchkiss was highlighted by a James Lavinskas’ double in the bottom of the 7th inning, capping a come from behind win against the Bearcats. The Lions first loss of the regular season came against Choate, who fielded a tough pitcher, and impressive offensive attack. The team then traveled to Loomis Chaffee and lost a 4-3 heart breaker to the eventual Colonial League Champs. Overall, Kent’s lack of experience, inconsistent hitting, and tough competition proved to be the difference as the team’s record quickly evened out to .500. The team finished the season with a record of 9-10 (this record includes pre-season games), and best season since ’99. The players were competitive in just about every facet of the game, losing several close games by a run or two. Players worked hard on a consistent basis with Ben Silver, Brett O’Neill, Denis Desjardins, Matt Rusinak, and Brendan Lavery leading the way. Next year, the team will look to several key returning players for leadership and experience including Captains Joe Alaniz and Lavinskas.
