2003-2004 Season Summary: Varsity Boy's Squash
With a record of 10 wins and 6 losses, the
2003/04 Boys Squash season proved to be one of the school year's
most pleasant surprises. The team's number one player, senior
and team "MVP" Alex Funk, ended the season with a
13-1 record, earning him a third seeding at this year's Class
B New Englands. Throughout the regular season, several team
competitions went down to the last match between the number
one players. Each time Alex pulled through leading Kent to
victory.
No other player had more five game matches
this season than team captain and Most Improved Player Award
recipient, Eric Mason. Though he recorded fewer wins than losses,
his game improved over the past three years like no other Kent
player. Dustin Kwak, new to Kent this year, proved to be a
great asset to the team both on and off the court. Kwak and
Yoon Seong Choe each earned a third seed position at New Englands.
Hyuk Soo Han and Alex Mitchell, also seniors, had very fine
seasons, often winning key matches, catapulting the team to
victory.
For the first time in four years, the
boys competed in New Englands, walking away with a tie for
5th place in a field of 16 teams. Though no one won their
flights, Alex Funk and the team's number 5 player Sebastian
Bland, finished their flights in 3rd place.
