Depleted by graduation last
spring and a rash of injuries at the start of the season, softball
appeared to be in a rebuilding mode entering the 2004 campaign.
Undaunted, the young team responded with a competitive 6-8
record, including several heart-breaking losses to the leagues
top teams. Led by captain Christa Miller-Shelley (who led the
team in every major offensive category) and Lizzy Malin at
the plate, the team was much improved offensively from years
past. Meanwhile, Captain Roberta Cordeau and Candace Turnbull
anchored a particularly solid infield defense that keyed the
way to victories over the likes of Hotchkiss and Taft. The
team will lose only 3 players to graduation and appear on the
verge of contending for a league title next year under Coach
Gene Campbell and star pitcher Evee Elswick.
