2003-2004 Season Summary: Varsity Football
Kent's 2003 football season ended on a blustery
late fall day at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut site
of the Class A New England Prep School championship game. Phillips
Exeter, overcoming a 1st half deficit, proved to be the better
team, defeating Kent by a score of 46 34 yet the loss
did not diminish the team's accomplishments during the previous
2 months. This team won the hearts of fellow students and alumni
as an astounding 6 busses transported nearly 300 Kent students
and faculty, joined by a strong contingent of Kent alumni (one
flew in from Florida to watch the game!), to Trinity to cheer
on the Erickson League Champions.
Kent earned the right to play for its second
New England championship in three years after posting a 7-1
record and claiming its record 12th Erickson League title (6
in the past 12 years). Boasting New England's most prolific
offense, showcasing both a 1000 yard passer and 1000 yard rusher,
Kent capped its championship regular season with a 44-13 victory
over Loomis; earning the team sole possession of the league
title; the Coach's Cup (awarded to the team with the best record
of the Kent, Loomis, Hotchkiss and Taft series); as well as
the fabled Spoon.
This senior class recorded a 20-4 record
over the past 3 seasons the best of any Class A school
in New England. A league-high 6 players earned All-League recognition
(Brian Melvin, Rogan Donelly, Bruce Elia, Nate Jones, Nkolo
Nyada and Antonio Brecevich) including the league's most valuable
defensive player - Brececevich. Also, named to the All New
England team were Brecevich, Jones and Donelly. Other senior
starters include Sean McGillick, Chris Connell, Mark Koussaya,
Alex Saks, Adrian Sosenko, Jordan Thesserault and Terry Williams.
