2003-2004 Season Summary: Varsity Field
Hockey
Having graduated eight seniors after one
of its most successful seasons in recent memory, the varsity
field hockey team was considered "young and developing" at
the start of the 2003 campaign. Despite this prediction, the
girls surprised both themselves and their opponents with an
impressive 12-3 record.
Early season highlights included an exciting
victory over Miss Porter's in sudden-win overtime and close
victoriesover Westminster, Berkshire, Williston and Pomfret.
A tough overtime loss to Taft did not stop the girl'sdetermination
for long. They came back decisively by shutting out their last
three opponents: Westover, Canterbury, and finally, Loomis.
On a typically brisk and windy Loomis Day, the girls showed
true grit and determination. Loomis Day scorers included Jordan
Pyers '05, co-captain and this year's MVP, Harriet Hoyer '04,
and Amanda Johnson '05.
Kent field hockey graduates several exceptional
players this year. Ali Garland was an outstanding captain and
talented forward. Nominated to the All-Star team for two consecutive
years, Harriet Hoyer elevated her level of play in every game.
Christa Miller-Shelley, who received both Athlete of the Week
and the Captain's Award recognition, was a versatile and smart
player. Sophie McNally and Corinne DeLitto were both integral
members of the defensive team.
