2003-2004 Season Summary: Boys' Cross
Country
Boys Cross Country had an excellent building
season this fall, finishing with a respectable record, and
enjoying vigorous competition. The squad, composed of returning
runners Marc Bucks, Mac Weaver, Captain Emerson Curry and Tim
Singer, benefited from the arrival of Hunter Hollrah, Josh
Bly, and Brian De Regt.
Together, these young men formed a core group, pushing one another in
practice, and running side by side in competition. Other contributors
to the varsity squad who worked tirelessly to support their teammates
included Drew Davis, Josh Neuman and Josh Lee. The beautiful land around
Kent served the team well in their daily training, providing many memorable
experiences, and mile after mile of terrain to test their skills. Thanks
to
the dedication and hard work of veteran coach Tom Holcombe, designer
and maintainer of the treacherous 3.1 mile home course, departing harriers
finished their final meet with a strong victory over Millbrook after
a close and very respectable loss to Choate (our only two home meets
of the season). The season opened with the Canterbury Invitational, an
annual rite of passage for the varsity seven, and concluded with Founders
League and the New England Championships.
