2003-2004 Season Summary: Varsity Girls' Basketball

Wins: 9    Losses: 10   Ties: 0 Results Athletes of the Week

The Girls Varsity Basketball team had one of its most exciting seasons in recent years. Although the final team record was just above .500, 9 out of 10 losses were by 8 points or less. The squad is already setting its sights on post-season play next year!
Captains this season were Andra Prutu '04 and Mariana Lima '05, both three-year varsity team members. Their vocal leadership on and off the court were inspiring to their teammates. Another three-year varsity player, Caroline Thomas, was the team's top defensive player as well as a consistent contributor on offense. Two new players to the program rounded out the starting five - point guard Sonia LeGoff '05 and forward Rachel Cleveland '05 helped propel the team to a higher level of competitiveness than in recent years past. Culminating the successful season was the nomination of two players to the New England All-Star team - Sonia LeGoff was selected to represent the Class A All Stars and Mariana Lima was named to the Class B All Star team.

My goal for the 2003-04 basketball season was to be competitive against every team that we faced. We accomplished this goal. Having only 4 returning players from the previous season we filled the ranks with 7 new students. With veteran starters, Mariana Lima and Caroline Thomas the team had a solid foundation. We filled the other starting spots with Sonia LeGoff at point, Andra Prutu at shooting guard and Rachel Cleveland at forward. We had a very exciting year losing by very few points to high-ranking teams in New England . Sonia LeGoff made the New-England Class-A All star Team and Mariana Lima made the Class-B All Star Team. Losing only one senior, next year is our year to shine.
