Head Coach: Jim MacLeod, at Kent since 1982
Message from the Coach:
As everyone at Kent knows, I am really into tennis! I am a former tournament player as an adult and winner of three doubles tournaments and two singles tournaments over the years.
I have been coaching the Boy’s Varsity Tennis Team since 1991. Prior to coaching the boys, I coached the Girl’s Varsity team at Kent for 9 years. My teams have combined record of 194 wins and 179 losses during those 26 years. I was fortunate enough to have coached two New England Champions in recent years, Tim Hadsel-Mares in 2001 and Phil Muhawi in 2005. My best teams were the 1985 Girl’s varsity team which went 11-1, were co-champions of the Coe de Villafranca Tournament and also had the doubles team of Lisa Frantz and Michelle Luhan win the doubles portion of that tournament. Also of note was the 1989 girl’s team which came out of nowhere to post a 9 and 2 won lost record. On the boy’s side, my best teams were the 2000 team which went 12-3 and the 2004 team which won 11 and lost 5. We are currently on a fine streak of having winning teams in 4 out of the last 5 seasons and the prospects for another fine season seem certain for this year with a fine combination of experienced and new players ready to take action on the courts.
