To say that Nora Nadire ’10 is a well-rounded Kent musician is an understatement. When it comes to music, and more generally, the arts, Nadire is talented, experienced and inspiring. At age five, her musical interest began with the piano and moved on to the saxophone two years later. Nadire discovered the strongest musical tool at her disposal, her voice, at age seven and began taking formal voice lessons at age eleven. According to her Nadire’s mother, her musical talent started in the crib, when she used to sing herself to sleep. She uses a video tape of Nora singing the National Anthem at age three as proof of Nora’s early musical talent.
At Kent, Nadire participates in many aspects of the Kent music program. She has been playing the saxophone in Concert Band since freshman year and in the Jazz Band since sophomore year. Nora has also been able to showcase her voice in the Choir, Chamber Choir, and the Kentettes ever since freshmen year. She participates in both the guitar and dance recital every year, as well as the Talent Show. She has also been in numerous Kent musicals, both as a faculty child and as a Kent student. She has had larger roles the past three years, and can be seen in this spring’s musical Guys and Dolls. Nadire annually participates in the Northern Regional Music Festival held by the Connecticut Music Educators Association and for the first time this year she participated in the All-State Choir and the New England Choir.
Nadire’s interest in the arts also goes beyond the world of music. Although she has been involved with musical theater since childhood, she participated in Kent’s one-acts for the first time this year and hopes to participate in them again next year.
Nadire is clearly a respected member of the Kent music program. She has been in Kent School’s Chapter of the National Music Honor Society since sophomore year and has been chosen as the vice president of both the Choir and Concert Band next year. She will also serve as president of Melody 4 Community club, which is committed to making sure that children across the globe have the possibility of getting involved with music.
When asked whether her future would involve music or not, she answered, “I would love to go professional, but it depends on what else I plan to do with my life. I definitely hope to study music in college, and would love to be on Broadway or to sing in an exclusive choir.” Nadire has another year left at Kent to continue expand her musical and artistic horizons, and hopefully will continue to pursue her musical goals in college and in her later life.
